To Do Something Good

One Act Play about Stem Cell Research.

This is a 5 character futuristic one-act play about a mother's quest to find a cure for her terminally-ill daughter. She battles both moral and religious opposition to stem cell research and the possibility of human cloning, and the painfully slow progress of scientific research. The issues are presented from all points of view and audience participation as the second act requires them to voice their opinions on the issues.

Excerpts from "To Do Something Good" a futuristic play about science verses religion on human cloning and stem cell research:

Pope: Looking forward in time you will see that as you plead for science to explain the mystery of God--bits and pieces of your soul will chip away until the scientifically perfected human will have no need of such an ambiguous appendage. He won't feel it, will learn to explain away the need for it, and will search unendingly for a way to replace it, without knowing what he even seeks to replace!

Mother: Don't you understand this is a way for science to do something good... heal sickness and disease... to redeem itself! It was the right moral thing to do! You could have saved my girl... my Maggie. (she falls to the ground sobbing.)

Pope: Don't you understand this was a way for the church to do something good!

Scientist: Don't you understand... this was a chance for us to do something good!
